the Asbach Connoisseur Glass
It was in 1895 that Hugo Asbach made an ingenious discovery in Rüdesheim on the romantic Rhine. As so often, he was in the cellar of his distillery to check the maturity and quality of the distillates from the large glass.
At one point, he had to leave the cellar for a while. He placed a snifter, that happened to be on the table, on top of the large glass to preserve the bouquet.
When he returned later, he picked up theglass in his right hand and swilled it. Only then did he remove the small glass with his left hand, instinctively raised it to his nose and breathed in deeply.
What Hugo Asbach then experienced is known today throughout the world as the "spirit of wine". Swilling released the entire aromatic wealth of Asbach and captured in the small glass, to be experienced and enjoyed by the discerning connoisseur.
He experienced the mellow bouquet of Asbach and all the characteristic features of this speciality.
Realising the value of this development, he immediately made it part of the tasting procedure carried out by master distillers - a practice that has remained at Asbach from this day onwards. An Asbach tradition.
In 2002 to mark the 110th anniversary of its founding, the House of Asbach created an exclusive edition of the Original Asbach Connoisseur Glass. This was the first time the Original Asbach Connoisseur Glass was put on sale to the general public.
What began in 1895 has developed further over generations and today's Original Asbach Connoisseur Glass is Asbach enjoyment at its very finest.
